The following announcement is from [WiDeS]. Please contact them directly if you have any questions.
The Wireless Devices and Systems (WiDeS) group, led by Prof. Andreas F. Molisch, is actively involved in wireless communications. The group is currently looking for students to help with ML based project during the Summer 2026 semester. The work will be mainly in collaboration with Postdoc/Ph.D. candidates under the overall guidance of Prof. Molisch.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
We are seeking motivated MS students to work on next-generation wireless sensing using machine learning–enhanced radio-frequency (RF) signal ray tracing.
Project Scope
- Implement and train ML models for RF signal propagation, including NeRF-based models and 3D Gaussian Splatting (3D-WGS), across diverse environments to improve channel modeling accuracy
- Analyze trade-offs between dataset size, model generalization, and prediction accuracy
- Use trained models as pretrained priors and apply transfer learning / fine-tuning to adapt to unseen environments
Preferred Background
- MS student in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Strong proficiency in machine learning/deep learning (e.g., PyTorch) — required
- Strong Python programming skills
- Wireless communications/signal processing knowledge is a plus, not required
- Exposure to computer graphics, 3D representations, or ray tracing is a plus, not required
What You Will Gain
- Practical experience at the intersection of wireless systems, ML, and 3D scene modeling
- Opportunity to contribute to research publications
