The following announcement is from the Engineering in Society Program. Please contact them directly if you have any questions.
We are writing to let you know that there is a fall 2026 course just for Viterbi majors and minors that fulfills GE-C (social analysis)!
It is EIS 103 Information Literacy – Navigating Digital Misinformation. In this course, students will learn foundational library research skills, examine social issues related to misinformation, and develop ways they can help others find reliable information on online environments! They will also investigate how they, as engineers, can help design ways to address and mitigate misinformation. This course recently won a prize from MLA and was profiled in Inside Higher Ed! (Learn more here: EIS 103).
This course has been offered since Spring ’25. For Fall 2026, we will be offering TWO sections of the course. Each section has the same materials and is taught by an EIS faculty member and a STEM librarian.
This is an ideal course for incoming freshmen and transfer students; each section is capped at 24 and there are many small group discussions and chances to make friends.
