I am a full professor in the Computer Science Department of the Viterbi School of Engineering at USC. I joined USC in August 2010. Before that, I was a research staff member in the Data Analytics Group at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center since November 2006. I received my M.S. and Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University.

Research Summary

My research interests are machine learning and artificial intelligence and their applications to health care, sustainability (climate science, traffic etc), and social media analysis. Specific topics include (1) novel machine learning models for time series analysis and modeling; (2) explainable machine learning models; and (3) efficient algorithms for sampling and optimization.
