SPHERE project (https://sphere-project.net) is looking for a self-starter MS student to work as a paid (22$/h, 20h/week during school, 40h/week during breaks ) student worker in the role of junior devops member. We are a mid-size team working on development research infrastructure for cybersecurity and privacy experimentation, largely hosted at USC Information Sciences Institute and USC colo facility. An ideal candidate:
· Can commit to at least 1 year of work
· Is proficient in:
- Linux systems administration — has installed, configured, and maintained a Linux host for a specific function, whether workstation, server, or cloud service.
- Scripting with Configuration as Code (Ansible, Salt, Puppet, Chef) and/or Bash/Shell.
· Is familiar with:
- Linux networking subnetting/CIDR, VLANs, Routing.
- Bonus if familiar with NAT & Masquerade.
- Double bonus if familiar with switchd, SmartNICs, OpenVswitch, ASAP2, sr-iov, or subfunctions
- Networking configuration (DHCP/DHCP, DNS)
- Continuous Integration/Continuous Development (CI/CD)
- Git
- Bonus if familiar/proficient in GitLab CI/CD
- Containerization including Podman, Docker, OCI, and container runtimes/runtime managers.
- Has understanding of Kubernetes clusters and cluster management
- Bonus if proficient with kubectl & kubeadm.
- Double bonus if familiar with cni, Flannel, Cilium, etc.
- Proxying/Reverse Proxying/Load Balancing
- FOSS/Open Source & how to open or address issues in FOSS repositories
Must be a motivated self-starter & willing to read documentation as part of the position
Must be detailed oriented and able to closely follow instructions
Must be available to come to ISI twice a week (can skip a few weeks for class conflicts or vacation)
