Prof. Graddy-Reed (Price) and Professor Belz (Viterbi) seek 1 or 2 MS CS students to join their research lab, MINERVA: Management of INnovation: Entrepreneurial Research and Venture Analysis within the Viterbi Office of Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship (TIE). The group researches a variety of topics around financing of innovation related to both the public and private sectors in an interdisciplinary setting of students from business, computer science, economics, engineering, and public policy.
We are interested in applicants with the following skillset:
- Backend development: Java, Python, Microservices, REST APIs, Backend frameworks like SprintBoot and Dropwizard
- SQL and NoSQL databases
- Frontend development: PHP, Javascript, React, Angular, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap
- Version control systems, preferably Git
- AWS: EC2, RDS, S3
- Experience deploying and debugging production systems
- Experience working in collaborative environments
Alumni of the MINERVA group have gone on to work at companies including Apple, Amazon, IBM, NVIDIA, Salesforce, Chicago Trading Company, and other world-class companies immediately following graduation.
An excellent candidate enjoys learning about new research problems, and is interested in supporting public policy in entrepreneurship. These candidates must work extremely independently.
Research assistants must be able to start in December 2024 or January 2025 and will work approximately 20 hours a week during the academic year. Students may stay on for summer depending on internship schedules. It is expected students would return for the following academic year. CS RAs typically stay with the lab for 1-1.5 years. Fall and Spring admits are highly encouraged to apply.
